I would be careful to specify who you mean by "the working man" in that statement. Do you count the small business owner? The small factory owner?

The working man is the man who has to work for a living, irregardless of the size of the income. Whether they be a temp at a factory, a foreman, a plant manager, or the owner of the company, they are all offering their hard work in exchange for an income. Their incomes are dependent on the success of the companys they work for, or own, and there are many things that can cause a business to fail, resulting in the loss of their income. People being supported by the govt are not as susceptible to income loss.

    Yeah

I feel as though welfare is a neccessary provision provided to AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO CANT PROVIDE FOR THEMSELVES. The key problem is that people who can provide for themselves choose not to do so.

I think welfare could be greatly more efficient if the oversight was there and enforced. I go to a convenient store by the projects in New Albany and every time I am there people atre buying hundreds of dollars of lottery tickets and blunt wrappers.

I feel like if welfare recipients were drug tested that alone would curve some abuse. The other is instead of issuing checks, welfare should be on a credit card in which the spending can be restricted. My taxes should not pay for scratch off lottery tickets or wrappers for someones dope.

This thread is exactly why good, hard working, non-welfare types are 100% morally justified in not paying their "fair share," a/k/a taxes, on every single dollar they make. If one is willing to put in the time, there are numerous side jobs for cash you can take. Hell, you can just go downtown Indy a couple times a week and just hold up a sign asking for money. With the amount of bs welfare going on, I don't even give but $5.00 to charity. I have had enough of sending the IRS $2,500 a year for the last three years. I get sick of paying for pro-sports bailouts, so I cut back on eating out, and my tipping has scaled back to exactly 20% when it was customary for me to leave 25-30%. This country is now entirely about "me, myself, and I" so everything I do now is about me and mine. My employer comes every year begging for me to donate to the United Way..I pass. They then beg me for a donation to the university..I pass. I make $43K/year while others are making well over six-figures, yet they get all upset when folks in my income bracket don't donate. I'm to the point that when kids come knocking on my door to sell stuff to raise money for the local schools, I want to give them a copy of my property tax bill with the school portion circled. I will then tell them that they can go down to the end of the road where the superintendent, who makes around $100K/year, lives and get their money from him. However, I'm nice, so I just don't answer the door to strangers.

If you want to see welfare in practice go to the Kroger grocery on East 10th Street the first of the month. Dozens of carts of food rotting in the aisles because the food stampers won't bother to take into consideration what their allottment is on their pre-paid cards. Just fill the cart and leave what they can't get for free.

Of course they pull up in cadillacs with spinning rims while their man waits in the car in his silk suit and *****es at momma cause she moves too slow -- even though he is not a stakeholder in the process -- he's just around for the free eats, place to stay, and the random sexual act.

    They are animals. Cull 'em.

    EXACTLY!

There needs to be someone to keep an eye on these folks, make sure they are on the up and up with their purchases, someone doing the home visits, etc. The problem is, unless you got someone that really cared, there would be some people in the position of checking on these folks, that would just say they did the visit, and yes they need to continue to qualify for assistance.

THATS IT, SOMEONE PUT ME IN CHARGE! WHOS WITH ME?

I'm not paying extra for someone to babysit grown adults who can't get their stuff together.

If people just plan, even a little bit, pretty much so all of life's hardships can be avoided.

How about if you want to get Money from The People, you work for it.
I see a lot of Services that could be rapidly phased out here, and replaced by this indentured program...

I've been saying it for years. What this nation needs are State and Federal Firearm Subsidies for the poor. That's right. Poor people need access to high quality firearms and ammunition, just like everyone else. Once they are well armed and stocked with ammo, I would like to see the law require them to attend proper training and then be sent back to their neighborhoods.

This program can be paid for by recovered drug money collected by the newly trained and armed citizens taking back their neighborhoods and getting rid of the crack houses, meth labs, and pit bull breeders.

    I call it GUN STAMPS.

Here are my theories on the current assistance programs:

Welfare - I understand people need a helping hand at some point in their life, and sometimes family cant be there to do it. To which there is a public program in place to help. You know thats great, I have no problem helping a family that is a little down on their luck while one of the adults is out of work, and looking. I would have no problem handing them the check myself. But you get deadbeats that are having kids, just to get a little more bank while they sit at home, with no goals or plans of obtaining a job. I think that if you are on welfare, you need to pay it back in some way, whether it be volunteering at a homeless shelter, helping do a little work at a park, volunteer in an animal shelter, or anything really that would better the community. Personally, I believe in working for what I got, so I would feel a little better about getting assistance if I did a little something to earn it. Drug testing should be MANDATORY, NO EXCEPTIONS! You pee once a month, and can be randomly selected at ANY TIME, unannounced to pee. Dont like it, dont get assistance!

HUD - My family has some rental properties, and deal with HUD. Some of them folks are straight up dirty. I think that there should be random home inspections to make sure that you are maintaining a clean enviroment. First offense is a warning, second offense is the boot, and ban from obtaining assistance from HUD again! Again, I think there should be some sort of volunteer time with your community, again, institute drug testing, see above policy about it.

Disability - If one wants to be put on disability, they must qualify to do so with a doctor that is provided by local government, not any ol doctor, because we all know some doctors will write the papers (good and bad in every profession, know what I mean?). Again, drug testing. These people, just because they are on disability, can still help in some way. If they cant stand for a long period of time, have them help somewhere in the community that doesnt require standing for a long period of time.
I also understand, some are truly unable to work, due to accident, etc. I have a friend whos sister is really messed up from a drunk driver hitting her, and she barely gets anything due to not paying into federal programs very long (she was around 20 when it happened). In this case, the drunk ******* who did this should be footing the bill. He made the poor choice to go out drunk, and really mess someone up, and its HIS RESPONSIBILITY to take care of her!

I could go on all day about my ideas and feelings about these programs, but no one wants to hear it. I also may have stepped on someone's toes, but it happens, its called free speech, thank you Constitution!
