VERT, the BWC is nigh on perfect; it really is. But the compact grip is just a touch too short for my meaty mitt and being one round down to the Commander in .45ACP is vexing. We'll see what happens when my other Commander is ready.

Today, I'm carrying my Kimber Compact 1911 in stainless. This is probably the most carried gun I own and it looks like it, having a definite shabby look to it. But, it's never failed to go bang when it was supposed to. My other mid-size 1911 is an Ed Brown Exec Carry. I tend to go back and forth between full size and compact 1911s. I prefer the full size but they can be hard on car seats and furniture.

Got my son a Sig P227 in .45, but even with the fancy 1911s, I keep going back to my well-worn Para P12 (shh! don't call it a 1911, JetGirl's about) for EDC. 3.5 barrel, 12+1 of .45ACP goodness, and it locks up P14 mags for followup. It's actually pretty small aside from the grip. Look up the warthog, that's their current model. I guess the Canadian Paras were a little hit & miss, but mine are good. IWB, it pretty much disappears on me, but that's me, and I have hands big enough to embrace it with love.

I have a friend who carries this gun. It is almost identical to the Springfield Ultra Compact that I carry. The Springfield's haven't been made for a while and I never see them in shops, but I have seen them on Gunbroker. For me, this is the perfect gun to carry. It fits me well and I shoot it well and I still have the stopping power of a .45.

Those do look interesting. Unlike a mid size 1911 they may actually be reliable enough for edc without sinking a ton of money in them.

Still have to deal with a poorly designed grip safety. Plus the lightweight polymer frame gives the gun little to reciprocate against if not held properly. Can't comment on the quality of the magazines as I have not seen them.

I am still learning about 1911s. But I figuring out a lot of the perception about them being unreliable is directly related to either the magazines or the extractor. Biggest problem is there is no OEM 1911 magazine per se.
