A 4" S&W revolver can fill a "lot of rolls" and do a fairly good job.
I'm surprised there's not more responses that just say:
"yup, glock 19"

One of the best 'Do it all' guns out there is a CZ 75B Compact. Big enough to be comfortable and fun to shoot, yet small enough to conceal reasonably well. Right now, there are many mid-size guns that could be the 'One'. Glock 19, Commander sized 1911, Bersa 9UC all come to mind. Go much smaller and you will tire of shooting it quickly. Much larger, you have concealment concerns.

I have to agree. But I would say more specifically the CZ-75 compact P-01 model. The light rail and alloy frame means carrying even less weight and the addition of a weapon light if you want for night stand duty. . I think I could live with just my P-01 if I had too. But I Don't so I don't.
