Nice little piney with iron sights and a pistol! What distance would you say?

The squirrel in his pic is a grey, not a piney.
Maybe some folks call greys pineys. Never heard anybody do that.
Pineys where I come from are actually reds.
And there's no season on them.

This is what we call a piney..........

Hey, good call! I saw the white belly but was distracted by the pistol. Tail, ears, size all shoulda given it away. I stand corrected. :-)

Took the ol single shot 20 gauge out this morning. Way to windy for my trusty 10/22. Had a blast, temperature was perfect but just so windy. Shotgun hunting is just as fun as .22 hunting.

Nice shooting. :-) Really like the look of that stock.

Thanks, I gave this ol shotgun a overhaul a few years ago. It was on rough shape. It was my great grandpas shotgun. Isn't really worth anything other than sentimental value. Love hunting with it, been killing squirrels with it since I was a young teen.

still after the bushytails here. got these friday morn from the same tree in about 30 min

Nice job. Looks like you had good weather for it. We were overcast and drizzly most of the day so I didn't get out after work. I'm going to try to get out Thursday since I have the day off!

That's a red squirrel, tamiasciurus hudsonicus. Pine squirrel is a genus, not a species.
annoying little buggers, always yelling at me!

Getting jealous at all these photos, hope I get some time to blast some bushytails this weekend :ar15:

Around here piney is a common name for red (whether it is correct or not).
And groundhogs are often called chucks or whistlepigs ............rarely marmots ;)
Yeah, I even at one time called them Pineys, but now that I know they're specifically red squirrels and while technically correct I can't stop myself from pointing out their specific name haha :p Never heard whistlepig before, but I'm not often in company of those who hunt/shoot them.

Whatever you wanna call them, hunting them sure makes for a good day outside!
hopefully I'll have my own pics up here this weekend :).

PS - are red squirrels any good to eat? Doesn't seem much meat on them anyways.

Been Itching to take my Son .22 Hunting he got a ruger 10/22 with ATI strikeforce stock (won it off a face book contest) I used to be able to go out back to tree farm (known owners my whole life) and hunt but with the growing number of people ive only gone out there with Pellet Guns. Posting pic of area east of purple marker would you .22 hunt it? 22 short out of Springfield M6 Scout? IMG_1962.jpg

I'd be concerned hunting that woods with a .22, given that most shots are at an up angle into the trees. Good chance that on a miss you could fire into populated areas to the north and south.

09-05 squirrel pic.jpg Not much is safer than an airgun...for the first time in 45+ years I never hunted with a rimfire, but killed 70 with my Benjamin Marauder .25.Took several at 40+ yards.Quieter than .22 shorts and much more accurate-1/2" or less groups at 50 yards.

since I picked up the m6 scout I been itching to use it to hunt .... wonder if #7 shot or #6 would be safer... this is the first time I owned a .410 or wasn't just handed a .16 gauge to hunt. not knowing Shot #'s

3" loads with #6 in a .410 with tight choke is not bad. Safer then the .22 in that area but with open winter woods they will see you coming and limited range of .410 will frustrate you some.
