I can't decide if he thinks he is just smarter than everyone else, or if he just isn't capable of listening to the opinions of people that don't agree with him.

It is really troublesome to me that he is unwilling to listen to those he hired to advise him. They apparently told him to just tell the truth and he overruled them thus creating yet another mess.

Really does this surprise you? I mean he was exactly like this during the campaign as well.

That really worked out well for him, didn't it?

I think he was fired for much more than just Russia.

Well it was Russia, but I really got to think that whole loyalty thing was the jumping off point. I mean based on everything I've seen unless You swear allegiance to Trump then your toast in his book. I think there really are few exceptions. Mattis and Tillestson probably are two of them, but I really think there are very few he allows not to do this.

Here's a WTF for ya. President signs the Russian Sanctions bill, yet says the bill .."....included a number of clearly unconstitutional provisions." So rather than veto a bill that he believes has unconstitutional provisions, and forcing Congress to pass such, with his objections.... he signs it? REALLY? I want to know how Trump supporters can possibly spin this, in any other way than bad.

They are called "signing statements" and have been done for years (decades?)... basically, yeah, I'll do it because I want to, and for the other "stuff" in the bill I'm signing, not because congress has the power to mandate that the president do it.

He's not doing it because he wants to. This bill was veto proof.

Not directed at you, but I wonder how many INGOers recall the discussions about requiring Obama to enforce laws he didn't agree with....

Oh, and actually in support of your statement, the War Powers Act has led to some creative executive dancing around legislative policy.

Vetoed the War Powers Act? Or published signing statements? Or abdicated responsibility for a coherent foreign policy?

(Hint: only 2 of those are true.)

Sorry but I meant to say I remembered Obama making statements not unlike Trump when signing some bills as well.

My understanding (it is difficult to find factual reporting on the details of the sanctions) is that the sanctions on individuals profiting from the actions in Ukraine are "hard", no flexibility. But, the sanctions on Russia's energy sector are of the traditional variety which the President can execute (or not) at will... hence they are actual bargaining chips in diplomacy with Russia. Flexibility on the latter were negotiated into the bill between the WH and the congress, and are the difference from the sanctions bill Trump originally stated he would veto.

Well hopefully the details will come out shortly. Sounded more like Trump's hands where being tied.
