      H322 in 358 Hoosier

Has anyone tried H322 in their 358 Hoosier? If so, have you shot any through a chronograph? I have limtied data supplied by AJ Brown, but I'd like to know if anyone has actually chronographed 358 Hoosier loads, and if so, did the results support the data? Any info on other powders/loads would...

      55 Gallon Drum for Smoker

Hey Guys I'm looking for a 55 gallon steel open head drum with lid, preferably unlined, for a smoker project. I'm near South Bend and can drive a ways to get it. Anyone know where I might find one? Thanks.

      Velocity Changes Downrange

Looking at Hornady's Ballistic Calulator, it estimates velocities at downrange increments. For my 358 Hoosier with 180 gr Speer, I used MV of 2650, and increments of 25 yds, out to 200. The program indicated the following losses in velocity, starting at 25 yds: 90, 89, 87, 85, 166 and 158. My...

      Burn rates and powder selection

Loading for 358 Hoosier, 180 gr jacketed bullet. Looking at the data that is floating around, I see loads for powders like Accurate 2230 and Hodgdon H322. In between these 2 on the Hodgdon burn rate chart I see IMR 3031, Hodgdon H335, Ramshot X-terminator, etc. But, I don't see loads developed...

      H&K4

Has anyone had much experience with an H&K4? They appeal to me for some reason, though I have never even had one in my hand. Are they generally available, or are they hard/impossible to find. Do they have a good reputation for function/reliability, or are they seomthing to stay away from, etc...

      WTB: 20 Ga Youth Shotgun

My buddy wants to get his son into turkey hunting. He's looking for a Mossberg 500 Bantam in 20 Ga., or something similar (870, Maverick, etc.). If anyone has one they want to sell, let me know and I'll put you in touch with him. He's in South Bend. Thanks.

      Lyman Trimmer Qn

I have a Lyman trimmer, the one you turn by hand. I see there is a power adapter that you can add, basically swap out the cutter/shaft, and then you power it with a drill or screwdriver. Does anyone know how to get the existing cutter and shaft out? Would seem the cutter head must be removed to...

      I V I Headstamp Qn

Picked up some mixed brass for 38 Spl plinking. Noticed that those with a I V I headstamp (as I recall anyway) were sometimes difficult to get the primers out of, and also sometimes difficult to get the new primer in. Has anyone else experienced that, and does anyone know what the issue is? To...

      WTB: WTB 357 Brass

      358 Hoosier Case Forming

So I got some 358 Win cases. Cut one down, formed with my 358 Hoosier die, final trimmed to 1.795 and chambered in my Savage. The bolt handle closed but required more force than the reloads I've been making with the same dies. The ram "cammed over" so I know that's not the issue. Looking at the...

358 Hoosier - Jump to Rifling

Hello Folks I have a 358 Hoosier that I load for, but I guess this question is not really specific to this cartridge. I'm wondering what is generally understood as the "standard" amount of jump to the rifling. If I take a sized, empty, case and get a bullet just seated, and then chamber it in...

      Accurate Arms for 45/70

I'm at work where I can't access AA load data. My LGS does not have IMR 4198, but he does carry a good amount of Accurate Arms powders. Does anyone have a good recommendation for an AA powder with Hornady's 325 gr flextip? I'm loading for a Marlin 1985. Thanks for any info!

Nitrex TR One 3-9x42mm Rifle Scope

So, I ordered one of these Nitrex (by Weaver) today. Anyone have any experience with the Nitrex line, or better yet, this particular scope? Thanks.

      Ithaca 12 Ga Featherlite

A guy I know at work says his father has a new in the box (unfired) Ithaca 12 Ga Featherlite pump from the mid 70's. Allegedly no rust. They want to know the worth. I hope to have a pic next week. What are the important things to know about this gun to determine its worth? Thanks.

      30/06 to 280 Remington

I see that standard 30/06 case length is 2.494 and that 280 Remington is 2.540. Does anyone know if converting '06 brass to 280 is considered "easy" and, does anyone know how much to expect the '06 brass to grow in the process? Also, 270 Win case length is 2.540. Is this a "better" case to...

      358 Hoosier bullet seating depth

I have a question about seating depth. I put a bullet in a re-sized case, just enough to hold it in, and chambered it gently. I could feel the bullet being pushed into the case as the bolt was sliding forward and closing. The OAL length of this dummy round is 2.595. Doing the math I know that...

      Basic Reloading Question

I have a rifle chambered in 358 Hoosier and I have a set of custom Hornady dies. I bought 20 Hoosier cases from the gunsmith that did the rebarrel for me. These were preformed for the Hoosier, and made from new 358 Win brass. For the first loading I ran them through the sizer die, mostly to...

      358 Hoosier from 358 Winchester

I'm thinking about making some cases for the Hoosier from 358 Winchester. This is cheaper than buying them pre-formed by someone else. The first step is to remove about 0.2" of length. I do have a hand-powered trimmer, but I'm wondering what other options there are to quickly remove this much...
