I hear you. If I could go back I would have hoarded some of those super cheap police trade in S&W Wheelguns for like $150-$300 bucks back in the day.

I used to buy S&W Model 15's (2 and 4 in. barrels) basically brand new in several Tucson gunshops in the mid 90's for around $150-165 dollars each!

On the original thread topic, I traded for a Gen 3 G20 at the last gun show. This gun is a hoot to shoot! Don't know how I went so long without one. I load a mild 175 gr lead flat point at 1050 FPS or a 180 JHP at around 1200. The 125gr ProLoad defense round is AWESOME at 1500 fps! You can get Starline brass for around $100 for 500 pieces brand new. Last you forever.

I do agree with this on brass life, with mild loads my Starline brass seems to last forever unless I lose it!

The starline brass I had lasted until I lost it. I used full power loads primarily for whatever that's worth.

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
I do agree with this on brass life, with mild loads my Starline brass seems to last forever unless I lose it!

My medium loads last 40-50 loadings. The failure mode in about 75% is base expansion until it can no longer fit in the shellholder. The other 25% get splits in the neck or side.

I usually load 10 at a time and shoot and load and shoot and load, replacing the occasional piece of brass as needed.

If you already have a Glock 23 .40 (which your avatar hints at)...I would recommend buying a .357SIG barrel for it and trying that out before I would invest in a whole new gun.

If you do some ballistic comparisons, you'll quickly see that the .357SIG isn't running all that far behind a 10mm...and for just the $100 cost of a barrel...you don't have to change anything else on the gun as the .40 caliber mags will work just fine! If you find you don't like .357SIG you a) probably won't like 10mm and b) you can always sell the barrel for 75% or greater for what you bought it for...so you're not actually out that much money!

Personally, I enjoy shooting .357SIG...but I do wear ear plugs and muffs when I light one off...they make one heck of a pop!

Amishman44 I was already planning on getting a .357 sig barrel for my g23 so I think I could just do that first and go from there

    You'll like the 357 Sig.
There's some hot loads for it and they are a blast to shoot!
    I pretty much only carry a 357 Sig or a 10mm anymore.
