This should be VERY interesting. An AR build thread with a California twist. :D

    Looking forward to learning more!

I finally got my receiver today and I'm to the point of installing the pistol grip. However, the screw seems way too tight to the point I can only go 2 or 3 turns let alone the whole thing...heeelp

seem you are cross threading it. take the grip off and run the screw in there with no grip to make sure it is fine. if it doesnt work, then the threads my be different or you already cross threaded it to much.

I did try it w/o the grip and I don't think i cross threaded it as I stopped when it wouldn't turn anymore as I'm afraid of screwing up my receiver....doh

reverse the turn while applying pressure, then after it seats it should go fine.
not trying to armchair qb you, but yes, it definitely sounds like you crossthreaded it.

Does anybody know the size and thread of this bolt? Maybe I'll go to home depot and try a different one. The bolt doesn't look like cross threaded does it?

a tap is a cutting device that put threads of a determined size in a hole.
Tap and die - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

running the correct tap in the threads will straiten them up.
in the receiver pic it looks like the threads a a little buggered up.
go to the compnay website of the receiver and see what the thread size is of the hole
then go to the company you got from the LPK and see what the tread size is of the screw

When doing a build I always chase the grip threads with a 1/4 X 28 tap.

The threads are cut before the receiver goes to anodizing and sometimes too much gets into the threads enough to cause the screw threads to deform.

I'm assuming that the 1/4 x28 tap is the standard size for the grip thread? I may need to buy one as my co-worker said that it doesn't look cross threaded but the hole being too tight. And your last statement makes sense.

    Thanks
