I did mine a few years ago....I had the choice to either go to the police department for free fingerprints or do digital prints and pay extra. I opted for the free prints.

Edit...Ok I just checked and they do not give one the option going to the police station for prints anymore. Huh. That sucks for LTHC noobs.

How does "digital fingerprints" work? Never heard of this. Is it like an app for your iPhone? (just kidding) Every police dept. I have ever dealt with charged a fee for fingerprinting.

When did you do this? The process requires you to apply online and setup an appointment at an L1 fingerprint location. You don't get prints done at the cop shop anymore.

That's not all together true. You do have to apply online, but there are some counties that still finger print. Mine does, they ink print you, take your money and send them off to the state.

Not every county still offers it as an option, you have to call the sheriffs office.
They told me I didn't need an appointment, just needed to come during business hours.

It is sent snail mail, she said it might delay the process a few days. Mine took about four weeks.
This was only a few months ago.

Hey, some of us just miss the old days when you could walk in the Sheriff dept and get the whole thing done in a few minutes... No "Democratic Socialists" here demanding others do it for us for free.

thats only for the plastic cards. If you have the paper version, you're grandfathered.

    Where's the bacon?
Since I still have my old paper LTCH, and the new plastic LTCH... does that mean I can carry two hip-holstered guns at once?

You have both? You're in that enviable situation where you can carry one concealed, one open, *AND* one duct-taped to your forehead. It's a 1+1=3 thing.

Do be careful with the duct tape, though. You don't want to either tape the slide (or cylinder on a wheelgun) so it won't move, or cover the trigger guard. That would be bad.

On another subject, I seem to have misplaced my purple highlighter. If anyone finds it, do send it back to me, please?

    Blessings,
    Bill

Not sure what the complaint is about. Overall, I think today's LTCH application process is far more convenient, faster, and more efficient than it was in the days when you did have to go to the local police station and apply in person. The duration of the wait once the application is submitted is shorter than it used to be as well.

And, not we have a problem with some departments being less likely to grant a permit than others, even though we are a shall issue state, there may been, once upon a time, more of a problem with that in some locations in the past. The current system makes it less likely for those sort of situations to arise.

When I did mine back in '010, I left work about 4 hours early to do it, thinking it was gonna be a long wait. Went out to Brownsburg from Plainfield, got fingerprinted 3 times due to issues (first couldn't read my prints. Then lost my prints. Then finally good, all in one day. Went downtown Indianapolis for the paperwork and payment portion. Went back to work with two hours remaining. I'm just glad I did my lifetime and never have to deal with stupid stuff again.

The complaining in this thread reminds me of a skit on Bob&Tom. One of the guests did a bit about getting drunk and trying to have unprotected sex with a woman he just met and some guys blowing smoke in his face

I'm pretty sure you still have to make a visit to your local police dept. So while it may be faster and more efficient, I wouldn't say more convenient. If your local police won't do the ink prints you have to make an additional stop to get the prints done. In my case that would be at least an additional 1-1.5 hrs of driving not including the time for the prints to be taken. There are no INkless print places in my county. Compared to about a half hr for everything at my local cop shop, including travel time and getting the money order for the state.
