I suppose, not being a veteran or enforcement officer, I am used to being at ranges where targets resembling actual people, not zombies or hand-drawn thugs, are prohibited.

Guess it is just culture shock.

Yep, I hate it when gun ranges try to be PC like this. Reality is anyone can be the threat.

Like someone suggested in an earlier thread regarding photorealistic targets, I now only shoot targets that have my own image on them.

I have targets that are photos of me dressed up like an old lady, like an old man, like a little boy, like a pregnant woman and like a school girl.

Yeah, but be truthful, you already had all those pictures anyway. You just decided to use what you already had to make targets

In my book, photo realistics, nothing wrong there and in fact, our range only has one stipulation: Cannot be a politician, your ex, a member of a US NGO (non-governmental organization), etc... within reason. Had a guy INFURIATED AT ME because I would not let him shoot a photo of Obama. Called me every name in the book you could imagine, including some racial stuff too (and I'm a dumb honkey).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, some guys will now spout off about how I am trampling rights, blah blah blah, but I draw a line there. Osama bin Laden? Non-US NGO, go for it. Dianne Feinstein, politician, dont like her myself, but verboten in my book.

Want to play Walter Mitty and pretend to save the US from Obama? Go home and dry fire at the TV for a few hours. Then when you realize that you wasted your time, then find something more pleasant to do. When people automatically turn to their firearms when they are mad, they have some serious problems there.

On the original note: Some of those photorealistics are a bit... haunting... And I do sort of worry about the "No more hesitation" thing too. I can imagine someone just out of training, whose revved up, thinking everything is a target, constantly has a color coding scheme in his mind, constant red. I am just getting mugged and tagged a guy. Now I am being filled with Federal Tactical Bonded .40 head to toe because he sees me as an instant threat, rather than assessing the situation first...

I trust police to do their jobs and know an IMPD trainer or two (nice people). But to use these targets and with the "get em in, get em out" mindset of bean counters at police organizations (and thus the lower quality of individual training the officers recieve, not sayin the instructors aren't doing their jobs, they are just forced into a cookie cutter method of training), this screams ouch for someone...

Why are top training target suppliers for the government supplying the likes of the DHS with “non-traditional threat” targets of children, pregnant women, mothers in playgrounds, and elderly American gun owners unless there is a demand for such items?

With our police departments becoming more and more militarized; are these targets for more realistic training?, or for desensitizing our police officers?

With everything else going on, I think they are getting ready to shoot civilians.

And yes... these targets are disturbing. Regardless of what anyone says to try and rationalize these targets...the company wouldn't have made them if there wasn't a market for them. It seems blatantly obvious they are designed for civil unrest training rather than isolated incident training. They are not depicting mall shooters or school shooters.

Many of these targets are depicted defending themselves inside of their own homes. Does that mean that DHS agents are training to take over the USA? Not individually... they probably don't recognize these targets at that. But I see a conditioning process taking place as they begin to slowly implant comfort in shooting at civilians.

There comes a point where "tin foil" becomes "Saran Wrap" when you start to see the contents of the dish with clarity. There will always be people who are willing to eat **** and pretend its peanut butter.... I'm not one of them.

These types of targets aren't new they just seem to have been expanded in scope. I ordered a bundle of random targets probably 15 years ago and it came with the pregnant woman targets.

I like the granny in the kitchen target. I imagine this scenario: You and your elite team of trained operatives kick in the door at 3am at granny's house. Granny was making a late night snack in the kitchen when she heard a gang break into her house and she grabbed her gun to protect herself. You shoot granny in the face in self defense. A job well done.
