When I did compete, I used one gun for everything. Carry and IDPA. If I were to compete again, I have no doubts I would do the same.

I viewed IDPA as an opportunity to practice against time pressure. I was not particularly concerned with if I won or not.

No, but close. My EDC is a G19 and I normally compete with a G34 in production class. Both Gen4, so overall feel is the same. Slight differences on sights and trigger, but the feel is there.

I have yet to compete but I plan to start shooting USPSA at SCCC soon. When I do it will be with a carry gun since I carry them all (at different time, smarty pants). Get back with me in a year...

Hicks law is science. The flippant tone about what all reputable tactical instructors regard as a fundamental concept throws science literally under the bus.

    true story.

We didn't learn about Hick's Law in any of my science or engineering classes.

We learned about Fick's Law, though. LITERALLY.

    Looked at the pole results.

Need to start a new one.

"do you use a tweaked gamer gun & lie about using it for carry?"

    Or something like that.

Either that or maybe define "family", all of my guns are black semi autos so maybe that makes the family thing.

    Not that it is important.

If you're at Parabellum tonight, I'll let you inspect the firearm I'll be using. It's totally tweaked with . . . night sights, a light, and a - connector. Oh, and one of those plastic plugs in the hole in the grip. Not to mention that I cheat by not having any of the removable backstraps installed. It's BARE. Very tricked-out and gamey! Heh.

Best line of the thread. A better question might be: "How many years have you carried a gun?" and "Have you EVER needed it?"

I know I've carried pretty much every day for 30 years. Never came close to needing a gun.

I don't carry my gamer gun, BUT I do carry a kindle and some pasties. Will that help me on the street?

Yes, throw the kindle at them and if they shoot you just paste your bullet holes and your good to go. (Don't forget to score the hits, yell out ALPHA, CHARLIE!)
