We should offer everyone on welfare a 1 time payment of 20,000 if they never collect again. All those dumbasses would line up in a second and we would be money ahead in 2 years

What ever happened to government cheese? They didn't give welfare recipients money or food stamps, that can easily be used for drugs. Instead they actually just sent them the food. A bit harder to sell loaves of bread and hunks of cheese on the street.

"Officer, I don't agree to searches."
"No, you can't have my ID. What crime do you suspect me of committing?"
"A DUI checkpoint is an infringement of my 4th amendment rights!"

"what's that? you lost your job and can't pay your bills? here, pee in this cup."
    we'll take it one further..
"have 6 kids and can't afford to feed them? Here, pee in this cup."

Hypocrites... every last one of you...

Most of us here have spoken against the drug testing.

That's a pretty broad brush, you're painting with.

so what happens when someone tests positive? stop the aid? then you knowingly have "x" children in a home that no longer can provide the minimum standard of living. the case then has to be refferred to childrens service as im sure the agency providing the test will fall under the mandatory reporting. the children are then removed and placed in foster care. im not sure of the amount paid per child in foster care but im sure it would be greater than the food stipend. health care and other services will be available in either setting thus being a wash cost wise. im sure mandatory rehab will be in order on the taxpayers dime.

i am in no way against testing and removal but the program needs evaluated fiscally as a whole. testing with no teeth is simply another cost. if they are prepaired to take the children the cost of that also needs addressed.

From what I read in the Florida welfare drug testing program is that the recipient will have to have an adult with no drug programs control their food stamps.

The far right has done an excellent job of convincing their base that welfare recipients sit in their leather recliner all day, playing X-Box on their 60 inch television while getting high. These bills are red meat and allow candidates to accuse the opposition of coddling drug users. Quite a few have popped up after the Tea Party movement.

Don't know about you but I have seen many do just that. Welfare needs to be reformed...if you are getting benefits and if you are physically fit you should have to work for those benefits...picking up trash, cleaning parks, painting, building the wall across our boarders...something. I see trash everywhere. I bet alot of those families where there are 2 parents in the home, one will go to work.
And maker food stamps like the WIC program so many pounds of fresh veggies and fruit, meat and so on.

I agree with the testing. I see too much abuse. There are professionals out there, and the only red meat are the T-bones in one of their 3 shopping carts.

Nobody is forced to take welfare, therefore, nobody is forced to pee in the cup.

    No pee, no pay.

forgive me.. that brush was a little broad... narrow it down to those that think all welfare recipients should have to pee in a cup...

I don't like the drug testes only because the way it is set up is a waste of money...but have you ever noticed that people who don't work always come up with money when they get in trouble with the law and have to pay fines and probation charges and house arrest fee. Maybe we should find a testing company, who will charge charge people who want to go on welfare 10 or 20 bucks for a drug test. bet they could get that. My husband has to have a drug test to work...if he fails he loses his job...so I am torn.

Think of it as practice. I had to pee in a cup to get my job. Most employers reserve the right to test. If one is getting paid by the tax payer, the tax payer should reserve that right.

I think the cost will be offset by a bettering of the quality of life for Indiana. I have know people who wouldn't apply for a job at a place of business because it was known that they drug test. How do you get off welfare if you won't even apply for a job?

Honestly, I have to pee in a cup at least once a year to earn a paycheck. I think everyone that receives a government paycheck ought to have to submit to a drug test, President, congressman, welfare recipient, matters not to me. Federal Government requires people in my profession to submit to random and biannual drug test. The Government should live by the same rules they mandate for others.

I gotta say, I'm impressed that so may INGOers can see that even though we'd agree we don't want to be subsidizing a drug habit, this policy is NOT the way to achieve that goal.

Heck, I have to agree to random drug tests to go to school. Not much of an inconvenience not like I have anything to worry about. Everybody has to here.

Why the hell do we have welfare (disability, social security, medicare, medicaid, unemployment, food stamps, public education, government subsidized housing, etc) in the first place? We don't need drug tests to account for welfare eligibility, we need to abolish all welfare. We can no longer encourage the encroachment of socialism in our society and expect capitalism to be able to survive. Plain and simple. Both economic systems cannot function at the same time.
