    A geographical oddity
your first day here and you toss that grenade into the room?

meh..if you're gonna do something, go all in

Regardless of whether anybody should or should not have to submit to a drug test to get their gubmint check, it kind of seems like it is set up to fail the way that it comes across in the article. Intentional? Maybe so. If that kind of system has been proven to fail elsewhere(someone said Florida), maybe this is just something to appease everyone who has called for welfare drug testing. We keep saying it here about the Dems and gun control...put something out there that either fails the vote, or is so stupid they might as well have passed nothing so they can say "Eh, we tried." So why can't it go for other things. Run welfare this way for a year and then say "see we tried..it didn't work AND it cost us a bunch of money." Not accounting for the fact that if we, on INGO, can see the stupidity of how it's written, then others can too. But they tried....so the .gov has something to tell everyone the next time they call for it.

Yeah, it's pretty soft. I'm sure no one is going to answer the "Have you ever tried drugs?" yes. I think they don't want to offend anyone. Meanwhile, the tax payers are insulted every day.

This experiment was already tried in Florida. Of the 4086 people tested, only 108 were positive - 2.6%

It cost the state $118,140. This is more than would have been paid out in benefits to the people who failed the test.

At the end of the day, this "cost saving" program cost the government an extra $45,780

    Result: FAILED

Ehh, not so fast. It's not so much about who tests positive - it's about who doesn't apply knowing they can't pass the test. There was a huge decline in the number of applications when the program started.

Add me to the list of people who have to get drug-tested at work. Fail - or even decline to take! - a test and you're fired. Zero tolerance. So I struggle to see why people who are benefiting (even if only temporarily) from the labors of taxpayers shouldn't have to pass a similar hurdle.

Do I think all people on welfare are deadbeats? No, of course not. There always people who run into problems. Are a large percentage of them that way? Absolutely!

My mother-in-law was a home visit OB nurse for many years. Some of the stories she told me just blew me away - people on welfare with giant flatscreens, new cars (who do you think Aaron's and JD Byrider sell to?), and the like, even though they had to get WIC and other benefits to feed their kids. One girl in particular was bolder than most. There were times when she'd be short money to pay her electric bill, and she'd call my mother in law asking for money. She's one of the most soft-hearted people I know, so of couse she did it. Was this girl on drugs? Yup. Got arrested for them several times. The best part? She had 9 kids between the ages of 1 and 10. All with the same guy, who himself in total had 17 kids in total. The state offered to give him a free vasectomy. He declined. I don't know what happened in Indiana, but they ended up moving to Tennessee for a while, and then they moved up to Wisconsin. We know they've moved because she periodically calls my mother-in-law asking for money. Thankfully M-I-L has wised up and doesn't do it anymore.

I used to work out west. Whenever I'd go on the rez I was stunned by one dichotomy - most of the people lived in trailers, but they all had brand new pickups. I don't know that you could call it welfare, but this particular tribe got a stipend from the government, and that was how they spent it.

I have no problem giving people a hand up in life. But when you replace it with a hand-out, you're going to limit the number of people who strive to get their way out of that situation to those who are the strongest self starters. You breed dependence. And the really sick part is, it seems like it has been planned that way. One need only Google LBJ's comments after passing the Great Society legislation about who would be voting Democrat for the next two hundred years to see that.

Then by your logic they should pass a law banning drug tests as a condition of employment. Won't happen, though, because employed people aren't as reliable a Dem voting bloc . . .

That wasnt my logic, just what i've been reading page after page ... and .... Source? Speaking of employed not being a good dem voting bloc, isnt it crazy that 9 out of the top 10 states with the highest percentage of people that dont pay taxes are red? Blows ones mind doesnt it

Wrong, Government regulations demand that I take a drug test. There is no regulation demanding that you not take a drug test. My contention is that if the Feds are going to impose a dug test on me as a condition of employment why shouldn't they impose it on everyone or none at all.

And im sure that everyone supporting them taking these drug tests would have no problem paying higher taxes to make it happen yes?

Beings there are ways to pass the actual drug test if one uses .... this is a waste of time and money. Wonder how much drug test companies had to pay to lobby for this or whose bright idea this is
    This.

Honestly this is a feel good measure for those who try to legitimize the THEFT of money from one person (or group of people) and giving those stolen monies to another person or group.

    Wealth redistribution is theft.

All these people pushing for drug testing can go f themselves, what they need to be doing is fighting to keep from having the money stolen in the first place.

These people are idiots as they scream "It's ok to steal from people, so long as the people getting the money aren't on drugs!"

What sort of sick, twisted, communist B.S. is that?

I agree with you on the ending the wealth transfer. And it is arguable whether the testing is effective. But to say all of those pushing for the testing are simply trying to legitimize the redistributions -- I don't think that's accurate. Some are, I'm sure...but I'd wager that many are RESIGNED to the fact there'll never be an end to it and want to try to mitigate their losses by kicking abusers out of the programs.

There's are reason why the old timers warned us about being borrowers...you subordinate yourself to the lender.

Don't want to take a drug test as a condition of receiving "free" money? Go earn own money.

Is there such a thing as an anti-socialist party? Or would that just be plain old Republicans? As of late this encroaching commie crap has really just gotten my dander up.

instead of this, how about authorized transactions? IE, legally forbidden from using an ATM, liquor store, etc.

is there really any place left on earth that doesnt accept cards of some sort?

I couldn't agree more, if the govt. wouldn't tax us to death, more people would donate to charities for those in legitimate need, and the rest of the lazy bums living off of us who work, would have to choose between not working, or eating!
