Haaaaaaaa....pretty labor intensive without much payoff. Must have some good discipline to not hurt anyone I guess.

Sloppy. Can't any of them kick above waist level? And don't any of them know how to protect their ribs when kicking? And....what's with the bad rendition of Stomp at the end?

I'm not familiar with that style, but it looks very sloppy. What's with all the stomping around? I studied Shorei Goju Ryu for 10+ years and one of the most basic things we taught even the little kids in the white belt classes was to keep their hands up when kicking.

That was absolutely ridiculous... its almost as ridiculous as middle aged office men pretending they are billy badass bikers because they took out a 401k loan to buy a $20,000 Harley and a set of leather chaps.

ROFL I think I studied almost 8 years and had to quit due to work & school. I didn't even get to test for my brown belt. My school did not hand out belts like candy.

This is exactly why I've studied many martial arts and never followed through to black belt!

I studied Shorei Goju Ryu as well. Where did you learn?

I knew Doug Adamson and his sons back in the late 1970s. Is Phil Morgan also one of Herb Johnson's OKS lineage?

The Adamson kids were peewees when I was a junior in the tournaments around here. They were really, really good even then. The guys in the video could have learned a lot from them, much less their dad.

On the bright side, that video made me feel a lot better about all of my inadequacies from that time in my life.

Sheesh! This is bringing back a lot of memories. I actually learned some of the more common shorei goju katas just by watching them over and over and over in tournaments. Lots of people with that big number 1 on their chests back then. At least 3/4 of all the competitors then were OKS, Glen Keeney's Komokai, or Kokomo Fire Dragons. Sometimes it was tough to get fair judging if you weren't one of them.

Yeah, I learned a lot sparring against all of the Adamsons. You learn to not leave yourself open very quickly. It amazes me when I watch MMA and compare it to watching high level black belts. MMA seems very sloppy to me and I feel that someone like Herb Johnson or Doug Adamson would likely school most of those guys very quickly.
