When is everyone going to start hunting morels? With as warm as it's been, I feel like they will start popping up a little earlier this year. Indianapolis area, I am thinking on heading out to one of my honey holes soon.

I usually get about 50 to 80 in my front yard. Next door neighbor does better in his. I have found loads of them in my woods in certain years. Others, not nearly so good back there....Usually occurs the 3rd week of April through the first full week of May here in Miami County....

I've seen no other accompanying signs, yet. Mayapples not up, jack in the pulpits not. Myh woods has some wildflowers that are 3-4 weeks early but not much else.

I pulled some maple sap this weekend that isn't yet bitter, though production has dropped way off...

I've been wondering the same thing. I took a quick walk in the woods this evening with no luck. No may apples coming up yet. I have a feeling they may be earllier than normal since the ground is staying warm at nights.

I unfortunately assumed that was a fresh pic, and nearly jumped up from in front of the reload bench to run outside and start looking.

Look at the site today. Two different people found a few in southern Indiana, one person in Ohio and one person in Michigan. Creeping closer as long as the temps stay up.

I've been hunting morels for 50+ years. This will be the earliest season in Central Indiana history. Yes, darks will be up as early as this weekend. The overnight lows will not be below 55 for at least 8 straight days. If we can get just a little more moisture, it could be another great season (likely not as good as last year, the best ever in Central Indiana.) Anyone who waits until mid April this year will do without. Yellows will be up by early April this year. Everything is at least 3 weeks early this time.

I live in extreme northeast Jennings county and went to two of my favorite spots today and yesterday and nothing was up yet. I will post as soon as I find the first one.
