Where are good places to look for mushrooms? I'm a first time hunter
Do I look near fallen trees? Near stumps? Moss? Totally clueless

Talk to your friends and neighbors, try to find out where they go. Then beat them to it. Morel hunters can not afford to have morals.

Or at least tag along with them and help them, let them keep the morels you find but you will get a better feel for the types of places to look. That is how I first learned.

My new morel may be ginseng.

Went tonight after work for a few hours. Found about a dozen blacks. Weather has me excited but still think its a little early. If I put them with the five I found monday its not a bad little mess for only being march 23rd.

There has been several reports from different people in our area (Kosciuscko) that say they are finding a few, but there is no hard evidence. No pics, no bragging. All you guys that are finding or say your finding shrooms, we need pics, we need some evidence. :dunno:

Found about a dozen blacks in Henry County today. Another 24-48 hrs and they should pop good. I have never found them this earlier before and never in March.

I've found about 9 total so far in Johnson County. Yes, this is the earliest in nearly 60 years of hunting. One for the record books. With the rain we had yesterday and today, about Monday/Tuesday should be great. I'll be out everyday this coming week.

We went out yesterday to a spot in southeast IN that has been good to us in the past but did not find any. Probably will try next Friday.
