    In the country, hopefully.
Right, but I'd still have to deal with them. :):
    Go.
    Just go.
If you can't go because there's actually a car in the space then follow these rules.
Watch the tires of the approaching car.
If they turn right, it's for sure your time to go, at the split second you see them just starting to turn right, go no matter what.
If they turn left you "may" need to wait for the next car whose tires you see turn right. Or not.
If you can't tell what the tires are doing that guy just stole your turn and you are obligated to tailgate him through.

Are they just asking for proof of age, residence, or are they putting your information on their computer for what you bought?
Do they scan your ID? Or manually enter your information?
They just wanted to check my age. No legal requirement. Academy's Corporate Legal is apparently having a Depends logistics issue.

Buzzed up there today. Not a jar of powder or a primer anywhere. :toilet2:

Had a couple of my favorite Wrangler shirts for a few bucks off Amazon price, though.

Was in the area so stopped in the Westfield-Carmel store. Guy working the gun counter said they still haven't received any powder. Mentioned someone had purchased all the SR primers at once, 20 boxes of 1,000. They had 4 or 5 boxes of Winchester SP for $79.90. I had a coupon for $10 off a $50 or more purchase excluding firearms & ammo. Since primers are components, figured i would give it a try and it worked. So, $69.90 plus tax, not too bad considering. At least that's what I keep telling myself. HaHa. They checked DL but didn't scan.

Stopped by on Sunday. $14 for a box of 7.62x39. Woof.

So this must be what it feels like to be you old timers reminiscing about plucking $25 Mosins out of trash cans back in the good ol' days.

While still a problem, this issue is mitigated to a large extent.
I was told by a manager I Rural King that not one of their guns on display are functioning.
They have all been disabled in one fashion or another so they won't fire.
Disabled, yes. Non-functioning... no, just disabled. Vast majority are via trigger locks, some are cable tied, etc.

No alteration to the firearm, just disabling the firearm so it cannot be loaded and fired.

    Why? Corporate, legal, insurance...

Manager told me that's why when you want to buy a gun it has to come from the safe in the back.
No, we sell the inventory from the back first for two reasons:

    1. We keep one of every firearm SKU on display. Different colors? One of each color on display. WTS/NTS models? One of each on display. If there is not one on display EXACTLY like you want, we don't have any in stock.

    2. It takes time to prep a firearm for display, writing up the tag, printing the price tag, marking its location as display in the inventory system AND putting on the trigger lock. Only time we sell the display when there is inventory in the back is if the customer wants that individual firearm.... then we process another one of the same SKU for display.

The display is just that, for display only.
Nope. As explained above, the displays are the last gun sold.

My guess is that you were talking to "a" store manager... that is an Assistant Store Manager. There are about 7-8 of them per store... there is only ONE Store Manager per store.

Store Managers tend to be a little more knowledgeable than ASM's because they are the named responsible individuals for the store's FFL, but they generally are not "knowledgable" about firearms unless they "came up" as a Gun Barn department specialist, or were an enthusiast to begin with.

And I don't doubt you were told that rigamarole... lol! Believe me, I've had ASMs tell me stoopider stuff. :)

I wonder when they ask for an ID if, hypothetically, someone decided to just show them a foregin passport instead lol.
    I use my Utah permit.

It qualifies because it is govt issued photo ID
90% they shrug and accept it.
9% they try to refuse and I just have to point out it is govt photo ID and the law just says they have to verify my age. Nowhere does it say anything about scanning.

And 1% of the time they are stubborn and refuse to accept that form and I have to switch back to my DL and say “OK, but you are still not scanning it. “

I’ve only had to leave my purchase on the belt and leave once. One call to corporate and that location chilled TF out and stopped insisting.

I was at the Evansville store Saturday, I picked up some small pistol primer’s and 22 long rifle ammo, she looked at my id but didn’t scan it, and I use one of those minimal billfolds (piece of metal with a rubber band that holds everything) and my face is covered, she didn’t even ask me to take it out

Paid $4.99/box five years ago. Got some every paycheck for a year. Makes me cringe to see my boy burn a mag.

I'm guessing this is along the lines of recent lawsuits around marketing to minors, which is why we are also seeing an "Are you 18?" dialog box pop on every firearms related website these days.
That’s actually from a CA law that was passed.
