The next step in gun control is banning all NFA weapons isn't it. Also I love APCs

Well see that's a thorny one. You see, while I'm sure they would love to ban NFA guns, they just can't do it right now. Any politico that has tried any serious gun control gets booted as soon as possible. Dems tried in the late 80's, and thats what caused 10 years of GOP rule in Congress. Plus the ATF is on the ropes and was just told to halt all the gun grabbing and stick to rubber stamping gun sales for now. Also the attitude on guns has shifted in our favor lately.

Most in Congress want to get rid of our guns, but they like their jobs more.

Ok so the government can kill and imprison Anyone it wants now?

First they have to point their finger at you and call you a terror suspect.
Once you are identified then the military storms your location and snatches you up and whisks you away to a temporary FEMA camp set up for indefinite detention where you will be fed MRE's while they wait for the train to arrive then you are loaded up in a nice and comfy newly refurbished coach car and shipped to the Death Camp disguised as an Amtrack repair facility in Beech Grove where you will be promptly gassed.

Don't mean to scare you but it's all true. Honest.

In the early years of the "final solution", there were no roundups by force. The Jews boarded the trains for the relocation program by their own will.

Don't mean to scare you, but it's true. Honest.

    You can look it up.

I love how the Democrats made political hay out of the Patriot Act. They screamed about how it was an infringement on our rights (and it is). They claimed we needed a Democrat President so we could undo the Patriot Act.

    We got our Democrat President.

...and then they pass the NDAA.

Oh, and we still have the Patriot Act.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Isn't there something in the constitution that prevents this?

There is something in the Constitution called the 2nd amendment which means pretty much any law that limits the type and number of guns/weapons that an individual can own are all unconstitutional. Taxes (like the NFA when it was enacted) on such weapons are probably also unconstitutional. Anything other than a normal sales tax at least.

Note that NFA is almost 80 years old, GCA is over 40 years old and the Hughes amendment is 25 years old.

Only NFA was ever challenged in court as far as I know and that challenge lost. The majority decision opinion could be construed to rule the Hughes amendment unconstitutional though.

The United States government has called on China to release Mr. Gao, who once defended practitioners of Falun Gong, a banned spiritual group.

    You go, US government!

The government is now considering revising its criminal procedure law to effectively legalize secret detentions, the scholars say.

That's the Chinese government. Ours would never consider such violations of basic human rights of course!

The Chinese have the common sense to not put such a law into writing. The US is the only country I can think of that actually was dumb enough to put such a law into writing. Even the Soviets didn't do that.
C'mon, we're schooling the Chinese to respect human rights!

Apparently we're doing a better job than we realized.

    No, not quite yet.
What's funny is that for most Americans that time will never come. The infringements on our rights are at an all time high. Our government is passing laws like the Patriot Act and NDAA which strip us of our rights and even due process, clearly an end run around the Constitution. Our government is printing money as fast as it can while borrowing from our enemies to keep the economy afloat. We're racking up trillions in debt every year and we're less than 10 years from complete insolvency according to some estimates.

This whole house of cards could collapse and as long as we have Direct TV, 1.5 children, a SUV in the driveway and a job (no matter how low paying) of some sort 99.99% of Americans won't lift a finger to stop the downward spiral.

We are the proverbial frogs in a slowly boiling pot of water.

And I'm just as guilty. I honestly have no idea what is the right thing to do at this point. It's so broken that doing things like voting and thinking your effecting real change is asinine. While I don't want civil war, I do think we need to come together and force these crooks out of office, as peacefully as possible. We need real change, and that isn't coming from the ballot box under the current corrupt system.

This path of tyranny/oppression is so worn as to be pathetic and has been the same since mankind started governing themselves. There are two types of tyranny. Open tyranny, where they simply don't care - think China and Middle East. And then there's the veiled tyranny, think Socialism/Progressive Liberalism, where individual liberties are slowly eroded to the point where a country wakes up enslaved in debt and regulation. In this scenario, it all starts small and "for our good". The simplest one I can think of is the seat belt law. It started off innocently enough that in the beginning, the only way one was going to get ticketed was if they were pulled over for another violation. Then, it changed to where you could get specifically ticketed for not wearing a seat belt, all "for your good" of course! Now, there are checkpoints set up and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns to actually stop, check your seat belt compliance (and snooping/probing while they have you stopped) and temporarily detain you "for your good". This is in clear violation of the 4th Amendment, but has been ruled proper by the judicial branch (I thought the terms "shall be" and "shall not" were absolutes, I guess not!). This is gradual tyranny.
Now, consider that we currently have a judicial ruling that stated that we HAVE NO RIGHT to defend ourselves from unprovoked intrusions/break-ins into our homes by uniformed personnel, coupled with the recently passed travesty by Congress and it really looks bad for Liberty. Not being paranoid here, but, given history, I simply don't trust government, especially once it chooses to go down the path that so many other tyrannical/oppressive governments have taken.
There is a solution. Get involved in this years elections. Get vocal. Research and then support local/state/federal candidates that share your beliefs and let's start turning things around with ballots!
