ooh, I would dig after dog is dead.

The thing you DON'T do, is leave the dead dog in the back of your truck and have your spouse post a pic on FB. Don't do that.

follow-up question: Is your pitbull named Jackass? Who is jackass?

I think he owns an actual jackass.

The pitbull belongs to the people down the road.

Sorry he is literally a Jackass aka a donkey. We have about 150 Nubian's some of the bucks can take care of themselves ( they have long horns and they will use them if pushed into corner.) But if we have little ones they are susceptible to being attacked by coyotes in the dusk hours before we bring them in for the night. The Donkey is very territorial and does not like other animals that dont belong here. Jack as we call him has been known to stomp and kick predators. We usually keep him out back for various reasons he has also discouraged two legged trespasser's as well.

My first thought was the dog would get kicked and that would discourage the dog from returning.

Is that territorial behavior common to all donkeys? That's pretty handy.

Yes from my experience. Ours can be a bit of a jerk. With family members he is fine but strangers not so much. We had an issue with trespassers a while back( finding beer bottles with the Brush hog) out back since Jacks arrival we have not had any issues. We have not lost any babies and if something is not right you can hear him for a good long ways. He was a rescue and he has earned his keep.

I think the OP has said all he needs to say.
IF the dog comes back then smoke and dump the dog.
I'm not digging a hole for the dog to be found on my property. The dog will look like a road kill in the end.
It's a shame the dog can't be restrained. Dogs are dogs in the end so sorry for the dog.
Next I'd take a big **** in the owner's vehicle and super glue the locks.

Most of our four legged members of the family are rescues. Both of our dogs were from a last chance shelter. They are the best dogs ever. Jack was left when his former caretaker's moved on.

Makes this mess all the more difficult, I'm sure.

Forget that ! Cut up a clear page protector in 3/8" squares and put 2 dozen or so in a gas tank. It will drive a person nuts trouble shooting "the problem".
