The tacticool, mall-ninja look is just nuts. Sometimes I see guys looking like they're ready for a weekend in Baghdad and it's just plain silly. You need to practice in whatever you might be wearing if heaven forbid you ever have to use your weapon. Since I'm pretty comfortable in my skills wearing normal, work-type clothes, I make it a point to practice as if I'm in a vulnerable situation.....like walking around a courthouse naked or something....

Im just wondering because I see some guys with full "tacticool" gear from head to toe at the range (camo pants, tactical underwear probably and such ... :):).

Where can I get some of that tactical underwear? I need room for a couple more magazines and a flashlight.

I saw some militia members at the range one day. Three of them where wearing full Tiger Stripe camouflage and one was wearing full ACU camouflage. They had their tac vests on and other crap. I could not help but laugh. A vest is no good if you are going to sit at a bench and shoot.

When I go to the local public range

I use the robot to hang the targets.

Otherwise it's usually cargos and a T shirt or polo, lately it's been a 5.11 underarmor type shirt just cause it's been so hot and I wear it as a T-shirt, yes I said 5.11 but at $3 per shirt on clearance it was a deal not to be passed up and the few I got are probably my most often worn. Cargos are Old navy or LAPG ripstop that are no different but labeled BDU and black instead of brown, again a great deal at less than $10 per pair and I wear them the same as cargos in my day to day. My philosphy with clothes is cheap comfortable durable and pockets. I rarely wear jeans. Good pair of beat up sneakers too.

No vests or BDU shirts or helmets, though I put a ball cap on as brass does fly, outdoors I wear sunglasses from Lowes that are ANSI safety glasses, indoors I've got some clear safety glasses. I double up on ear protection with surefire in ear plugs and some electric over hear pads, both let me hear a normal conversation or RSO instructions but supposedly block out everything over 80db loud. I keep a spare IWB holster in the range bag if I want to conceal on a stop somewhere less than gun friendly on the way home, otherwise I'll OC OWB to and from the range (I can't imagine how drop legs are useful when standing with the reach). In the winter I'll throw on my fleece jacket, we were at -10F in northern WI this past winter before I put on a full winter coat and gloves so my range trips reflect how I would be dressed when I'm out and about in everyday life.

For those that wear kilts, are you going traditional or tactical? http://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2009/09/27/the-tactical-war-kilt/

There's no need for costumes and the gray man theory should apply here, hopefully muted darker colors and dress that doesn't make me stand out will mean that if someone who saw me at the range crosses paths with me in the mall or at wally world that they don't remember seeing me at the range or wonder if I'm carrying let alone know.

I dress for the weather or climate. Usually jeans and a dry-fit Tshirt, or cargo shorts and again, a dry-fit Tshirt, but always some sort of hat. Sometimes I use gloves but I have my eyes (except one time 2 weeks ago...) and ears. Fall means I start adding layers, and winter dictates cold weather gear. Other than jeans and khaki, I always have dry-fit gear of one form or another.

...but most of the time, I'm this guy

I like to wear a Photographer's Vest. Lots of pockets, some zippered, some velcro and some open. Even a big pocket in SOB. Works for me.

Flip flops, pajama pants, and a robe. The way I see it is that If I'm training for home defense I may as well dress like I'm at home
