    2) Beretta 92F. Replaced the iconic M1911 in US Military service, and led the law enforcement sea change from revolvers to semi-autos. Helped inspire the trend toward higher capacity semi-autos in the commercial market as well.

Now I've been around here long enough to know that you are very knowledgeable. But, I would be interested in hearing how one credits the 92 with being the semi-auto that "led the law enforcement sea change from revolvers to semi-autos. Helped inspire the trend toward higher capacity semi-autos in the commercial market as well". The military didn't put it in service until 1990. I have always (possibly incorrectly) credited the Glock 17 with what you credit the 92. While the 92 had been around since the mid 70's it really hadn't penetrated the US law enforcement market. I was under the impression that until the 17 was introduced most law enforcement were still relying on their revolvers. I thought Glock came to market at the perfect time. Right around the '86 Miami Shootout. A shootout where law enforcement brought revolvers to a semi auto-party and which became the impetus for the move from revolvers.

I am biased so forgive me.

Glock is king in my book. They may be ugly but I feel extremely confident in the reliability. Of course other handguns have equal reliability. I'm just Glock 17 and 19 biased. I don't dig the G26. Not a fan of sub compact glocks or and any double stack sub compacts(too wide for my taste).

A lot of good guns on that list so I can't number them. I do believe FN series pistol deserves a place. I have experience with FNP45, FNP9, and FNX9. All are excellent quality handguns. Only downfall is lack of accessories and holsters.

So there's people who refuse to believe any other gun could come close to their believed gun and then there's sane people.

I'll play along with the game but I'm stipulating that "best" has many factors other than "would you carry it?"*

    1. Glock 17
    2. Browning Hi Power
    3. Heckler & Koch USP
    4. Luger P08
    5. Beretta 92F

    It's a 9mm - of course I wouldn't carry it!

I would agree with you on the FN pistols. Definitely a high quality underrated pistol that most people forget about. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for any Glock. :p

I haven't shot nearly as many different guns as some folks on here, so I don't know that I could make a great top ten list, even subjectively for myself. But if I were going to make a list of "what I would carry/shoot/own" as opposed to "what is the most influential or innovative" or whatever, it would go something like this:

    1. M&P 9c - I like a polymer, skriker fired gun for carry, and the M&P is the top of the heap as far as I'm concerned. The 9c is as easy (for me) to shoot as the G19, while being closer to the G26 in grip length. Decent capacity, small enough I don't mind carrying it IWB, fun and comfortable to practice with, confidence inspiring. Maybe I should asterik that and say: *with some trigger mods.

    2. CZ85 Combat - Okay, really any CZ75 variant with ambi controls would suit me just fine (Shadow Target, yes please). The trigger is good and can be made to be absolutely sweet; ergonomics are excellent, the weight of the gun mitigates recoil and aids tracking, and CZs are just damn accurate out of the box. They beg to be shot until you run out of ammo. Thinking about it kind of makes my heart race.

    The rest:

    3. Glock 19 (I hear these things run pretty well)
    4. Sig P226 (if only it had an ambi safety)
    5. FNS-9 (only held one, never shot it, but I could be a believer)
    6. Springfield XDm (not a fan of the grip safety and chamber indicator, but whatever, it shoots)
    7. Beretta PX4 (great shooting/often overlooked gun, but a little wide for IWB carry depending on the configuration)
    8. Beretta Nano (my favorite slim sub nine to date...where you at Glock?)
    9. Kahr CM9/PM9 (one of the earliest and still one of the best single stack subs on the market)
    10. CZ P-07 (fantastic if only it wasn't so damn wide)

    DON'T call me a "Glocksucker"

You are right. I apologize. My wife thinks I have frontal lobe issues and have trouble censoring myself. I do have this internal debate with John Wayne on one shoulder (right side) and John Lennon on t'other. I listen to both arguments then decide to unhear what doesn't support my position. You should hear the stuff I do censor ;)... Did I just think that or did I say it?
    Hear ye! Hear Ye!
You, sir, are not a Glocksucker!

Page after page after page of 'Top Ten 9mm Pistols,' and only ONE mention of the SIG P210. To make up for that, here:
