I suggest a Walther Creed you can afford one for an extra $30.

    Or a Sar9

Have them email you a quote it's right around $250

Make sure it's something that has readily available holsters and magazines. Sometimes that cheap gun can be a PITA to find accessories for.

That budget is just for the gun. I have been shooting guns without ear protection since I was 8. I have glasses I have to wear anyway. So yeah. But the budget is just for the hun. But that is now on top of whatever I get for my birthday from my in-laws. So it looks like closer to 400
Just buy what you want, for whatever price it takes.
Don't worry about the wife throwing o hissy fit.
Just keep shooting without hearing protection and soon enough you won't have to listen to her anymore.
You won't need to listen to anything.

Ask her what what price would she put on her life or yours? If it is $250, then you have bigger problems to deal with. Once you get past that issue, take her to a range and let her "outshoot" you. That might just change her viewpoint.

Handgun wise, I highly recommend a S&W Shield. A few dollars above your "budget", but far superior to most other guns in that price range. And nothing wrong with getting a used, but not abused one. You can often find them here. Just takes patience. 9mm, 40, or 45, all are are more than reliable and will get the job done if needed. Easy to CC and maintain. Been carrying one in .45 for years and have never looked back. Little tougher to find holsters for it compared to the the 9 mm and 40 models though.

What is everyone’s thoughts and experiences on SCCY?
I’m looking to get my first ccw, and I have a price limit of 250. I will never carry a high point so I’m looking at other options. SCCY is a affordable option but I don’t know anyone that has experience with them.
I’ve read a lot of opinions about SCCY on this thread but didn’t recall any being a first hand experience. As they say, opinions are like axxholes, everyone has one.

The new SCCY Gen 3 is supposed to have a better metal trigger, and a smaller grip. Some other improvements I can't recall. I watched to many Shot show videos :)

They are a love it or hate it gun. My wife loves hers.

Protect your ears. I didnt for years around aircraft and guns when I was young. Now at almost 50 I wish I had used hearing protection. Hell, I'll give you a handful of foamies if you are that averse to spending anything on them.

And just an FYI, guns cant be returned. So if you buy what you need, not what she say says you can have, she cant tell you to take it back. I mean, they'll BUY it back from you. but only 50-60% of what you paid for it. :):

Its better to beg forgiveness than beg permission. Whats she gonna do? Divorce you?

I plan on buying one once they get the Gen 3's out. Will give it my 1000rd test. It involves cleaning and lube, then running it to 1000rds several different bullet types including hollowpoint after 500rds so it has a chance to break in, and lubrication as needed but no cleaning.

I do a similar test with new to me pistols also. I run them until I get a malfunction. I have been fortunate that I am usually tired of the black "ooze" getting all over everything, that I just concede defeat and clean it. I figure if it looks like it was sitting in the Exxon Valdez wake for a few months, it's probably good to go. :)

Really the only guns that I get malfunctions with due to lack of cleaning are .22's and autoloader shotguns.

I had a 1911 run dry on me once and it malfunctioned. I removed the slide, squirted some oil on the rails and finished the class without any more issues.

Or at least find her purse and retrieve your ummmm..... nevermind.
This is perhaps an unfair criticism. We don't know just how anti-gun his wife is and how much work he had to do to get to the agreement he has

Why seek out a major argument, pick your battles. Once he gets an acceptable carry option and demonstrates that he is safe in its operation (and maybe gets her to the range because 'you really should know how to use it too') then is the time to lobby to step up in quality

The really unfortunate thing is that it is such an expensive time to seek even a used firearm as well as the ammunition to practice. He might have been able to stay closer to budget pre-Biden

No one's brought up COVID yet, have they? :dunno:

Check out Gunbroker, might be some deals there. My first CC was a Makarov in 9X18. At best a stop-gap, however.
