You can always do a trade post in the classifieds. Trade the 45 1911 for a 9mm 1911. That's an option. If you want concealed carry, I like the Ruger lcp2 for pocket carry, although that is 380. Or you can go m&p shield, g43, hellcat, p365, micro dagger for single stack cc 9mm. Those can all be had for $500 or less. Or could trade for them.

I’m liking the idea of trading / selling it to get a smaller lighter 9mm 1911.

I have a Colt govt model that is kind of a safe queen for me, for similar reasons. Only shoot it once a year. But seriously 1911s are great and an animal all their own. So getting one in 9mm makes sense to me.

I’m on board with you OP, if you aren’t using it then get something you will use.

Ty for stopping in with recommendations. I had more thoughts of trading the px4 storm for some you mentioned. I have searched so many darn thibgs i can't remember them all. The 380 plus lioked good for your exact reason of pocket carry, just the cost of 380acp turned me away and it would be a new caliber i don't use. Still a thought though...trying to remember about the shield 2.0, micro dagger were good, Taurus G3C. Couple others i can't think of, but those of that size. Single stack was a big thing, but i think a few double stack compacts will still feel comfortable for me after having iwb carried for a couple years now. Good stuff you mentioned....

Wife loves her glock 43x. It feels much better in my fat hands than regular double stack glocks.

Had a couple suggestions of the light weight 1911. I gota get to Plymouth in the morning, so if i remember..I'll stop in at michiana firearms and see what it feels like. Maybe someone else had same thoughts cause last week i seen a sr1911 used on their website for $700. Not sure what full size it was though.

I know the 43 is smaller single stack and many good reviews. Kindq why i started out with the walther pps m2....1" thick, single stack and feels good in the hand.
Check out the PSA Micro Dagger it's I think a G43x clone.
Also the Dagger it's a G19 clone, but with better ergonomics, very reliable, and inexpensive.

You can pocket carry various 9mm's, especially if you alter wardrobe a bit. I've usually worn cargo shorts in summer anyway and this past year went to wearing cargo pants in winter (can be had cheap at Walmart) and it opens up quite a bit of what you can pocket carry.

I too have degenerative disc issues in my back (shots, etc) and moving from IWB to pocket carry with an Alabama kydex pocket holster has been very helpful for me. (I'm able to carry a 365 in the X config via pocket carry, and will be looking to try and do so with an optic soon).

I'd suggest maybe trading for a Shield Plus or even the P365 (can be had used for great prices for the standard 365 these days). As you mentioned I hear the Taurus G series run well.

I've personally had no issues with aluminum case ammo in 9mm and actually prefer it for range use because it's cheaper and so I don't feel as compelled to pick up brass.

If you trade the 1911 could possibly fund something like a Taurus G series and a TX22 compact which would mimic the G series and allow you to get some cheap practice with 22 so that you can still be proficient. Shooting is a perishable skill.

    Good luck.

    Great post.
Today when i went into Plymouth after dropping my daughter off at college, i stopped in at michiana firearms like i said i would do. I first checked out tge sr1911 lightweight. Nice pistol but thought it still seemed a bit big for my needs and weight was a lil ify. Next i looked at a p365...i really liked it. Felt good and couldn't believe how light it was..next i looked at the shield+. Another great firearm, felt good in my hand and light also. I compared these 3 to what i have now for weight, size and hand comfort. My daughter's Taurus G3C also would be included but does weight a hair more than the p365 and shield+. They didn't have a regular shield to check out. I also asked their opinion about resale value of my 1911 because they also had a used 1 for sale with more rounds thru it than mine. They were selling it for $700 and said being i only have about 2 mags thru mine that 750 would be a very fair price to start with. Forgot to ask about my berreta px4 storm.

So after much consideration and input from many of you, i am going to suck it up and sell for something i need or want and feel more comfortable with for its intended purposes of self defense.
Thanks to all that have helped me.....

Glad you got out and looked at some different things. Sometimes you just need to go see for yourself. Between the 3 you looked at my choice would be the 365, if my choice means anything. The Sig has a lot of aftermarket support and you can buy different size grip modules and magazines to configure it in a variety of ways. I had one for a very short time and traded it off for an AR build. It shot very well and was actually pleasant to shoot despite its small size. My friend has two and he ordered Wilson Combat grip modules, magazines and even a different slide with Red Dot. His work very well and are a lot of fun. Again just my opinion and others may vary. Good luck.

Which means they probably gave the guy that sold it to them $4-500...

When slimness of the wallet is a concern, HK P7 is not a well informed recommendation...
There is no well informed hand gun recommendation for a person with a slim enough wallet they need to go through any of the contortions posted in this thread. If money is that tight you can't afford playing with guns like they were baseball cards trading them around.

Not exactly sure if your saying because I'm poor that i don't have any business messing with firearms OR if your saying because i don't have cash readily available to buy a firearm any time i want that i shouldn't be even thinking about messing with firearms.. which is is? Because this Whole Thread was about selling nice firearms to get something else i thought would work for me...

If you buy a cheap 9mm, how many rounds a month would you shoot it?

Why are you so relentless to keep bashing the Sr1911. It's a beautiful firearm to me, they sure aren't cheap new and what you stated is so irrelevant to resale value. You think a dealer regardless if its a car or motorcycle, firearm or even a house..is going to pay what general public will pay? No, none will for the simple fact they would be out of business or might as well not be in business if they aren't going to make anything off it. Enough with you, i was ok at first with your post, but they keep getting more derogatory as you go on.. just stop with it..dang..

Derogatory? Telling you the truth that a gun listed for sale at a LGS listed for $700 means the LGS only paid $4-500 for it? Or asking you how many rounds a month you plan to shoot a cheap 9mm that you want to purchase?

You mentioned the little Taurus autos. Those things, in my opinion, are an excellent example of a good value.
Hopefully the next good warm up we get up north here, my daughter will bring hers over finally. I am very curious about it. Thought she was guna go get another g3 last week when dunhamssports had them on sale for $229 . Probably couple more weeks they will again. They have pretty good prices on many firearms and dome smmo here n there.
