We hit some reclaimed strip pits and other spots this morning down around Petersburg. We did not come up with anything. The woods looked to be too early as we saw none of the things we see with morels in this area (such as snails, not sure why, but when we are finding morels in these pits, I see lots of snails).

The snails come out of hibernation as the soil temperature comes up. The same increase in soil temperature is what triggers the mushrooms. Correct soil temp, moisture, and pH are the main driving factors.

Went back to the Petersburg area today and hit Glenburn a little bit too. The woods are starting to look right down there and we found 48 grays and 2 blacks (I only found 8 of them, leaving my big brother today's clear winner).

Found 2 grays today in Putnam county. They had been up a little while. Probably came up a few days ago during the warm days we had. Sure hope it warms up soon, im getting the "fever"

Found 25 in Indy on Wednesday. Mostly greys with a few small yellows. All were somewhat dried up, or they were frostbit one of the two!

Sun and a mild day lit them up again for those of us in the Paragon quadrangle. Neighbor and I gathered from his place and mine and came away with 150ish between us. Lotta dinks but they'll eat fine.
