Several folks have gotten snarky with them, thinking they are "Bart, the Mall Cop", only to get a free overnight stay with IMPD as the result.

Yeah, my wife works for a hospital that has it's own duly sworn police force. Imagine the surprise on the faces of unruly family members of patients or patients themselves when they find out they are being charged with assaulting an officer and not assaulting a mall cop.

    Ok, thanks for the info.

Do they have the same arrest powers as regular police officers? Are they bounded by the same regulations? Do they receive the same training?

Not an expert, but my university had its own police force. They had arrest powers, carried guns, and they had regular cop training. They also had additional training for typical university situations like underage drinking, sexual abuse/rape, etc. A good number of them were regular cops who were picked or signed on to be on this particular force.

As to university police in Indiana, here is an instructive case. The defendant was a year behind me in law school.

    MYERS v. STATE | FindLaw

His experience may have influenced his career path:

    History

Do you happen to know of Bristol Myers is a fellow gun-person? And if he reloads?

Because I think it'd be funny to hear about a Bristol Myers squib.

    Indeed!

...and no, I didn't know him well. I was married back then and had a kid during law school, so I was pretty far removed from the social scene.

Looks like driver drove off after figuring out he was going to get arrested. Officer then shot him.

The dragging looks a bit plausible. Seems like the officer had a sense the guy was going to take off and reached into the car. As it started moving, he would've been pulled alongside, then it looks like he kinda got swung around as he let go of the car.

Still not sure what made it necessary to shoot.

May end up being something along the lines of fear for people in the area as there was some pedestrian traffic around.

I have no idea, unless that happened before that vid starts.

Heh, that's a fun visual. The guy hands him the liquor bottle and he, what, hands it back before asking again for his license? Sticks it in his pocket?
