Cheaper .300 win mag or .308/7.62x51?

Pretty much what I figured. Thank you.

Cheaper .300 win mag or .308/7.62x51?

Looking into buying a remington 700 and I've come at a crossroads. A friend of mine is trying to sell me a remington 700 in .300 win mag and assures me that generally, win mag amm is cheaper than .308. I prefer the .308 because I find it to be a more practical round for my needs. My needs...

      Lotsa ARs, No AKs

AK47 is the most popular rifle in the world and ammo for one is bountiful and always useful. Gun sales have gone up in recent years and everyone wants an assault rifle.

      Carry in Automobile at School?

Well if you're just picking up your kid I don't see why it would be an issue. If you were walking around the school with the gun on your person I would see a much bigger issue.

The M249 - End of a 27 year career in the Marine Corps

This is a very good point. They recently came out with the Mk. 48, a 7.62x51 version of the saw that's lighter than the 5.56NATO version. 5.56 is not a good machine gun round!

Opinions on Mag Pouches / Holders

If you can go to a military surplus store and grab up some of the Vietnam era mag holders, get them! They work wonderfully and they're tougher than most of most of the newer gear you'll see nowadays. In my opinion.

      Steyr

Steyr's been around for awhile. It's my belief that they're more known for their rifles than anything else. I don't know about their pistols, but I see advertisements for their rifles all the time. Still, Sig Sauer, Glock, FN Herstal, and Heckler & Koch are European arms companies that...

      Remington 700 caliber suggestions

Get it in .308. All of the snipers I've run across in Iraq and Afghanistan use .308. If that doesn't tell you something other than the apparent ballistics, then go with something else. But the .308 is a time tested and established round. Go for that.

      Revolvers? Still relevant?

Before I went to Iraq I went to a sporting goods store here in LaPorte. I couldn't decide on what to purchase. There were 3 gentlemen at the gun counter with me. Across the counter was a former active duty Marine and a Korean Era war vet who said either the Glock 36 or the .357 mag revolver...

      S&W M&P 9C or G19?

I would love to say go with the Glock 19. From what several people at several gun stores have told me, Glock is falling out and the M&P is taking over. Glock has such a long, established history and I've seen a lot of Special Forces guys carry glocks in my 2 tours (Iraq and Afghanistan.) I'm...

      Mosin Issue

I don't know if it helps, but I got turned on to the idea of buying a cheap military surplus bolt rifle right off the bat for longer range shooting. And the fact that ammo is cheap got my attention too, but when it comes to mouting a scope and a bipod I have to do some finagling, measuering...

      Anyone Ever Seen a Black 686 S&W?

I'd love to et a 686+p but I can't bring myself to spend so much money on a revolver. I love that it holds 7 rounds....but that to me doesn't justify the cost of $1000 or more for this gun. I'll probably just buy some Taurus 6-Shot revolver in .357mag that will be a lot cheaper.

      What handgun do you carry?

Glock 36. MY first handgun and one I will keep for a very long time.

      Mosin Issue

I ALMOST bought myself a Mosin-Nagant (M91) version. But after a lot of research I've discovered it's not a very good choice for long range shooting. I decided to go with a Remington 700 because unlike the Mosin I don't have to go to extreme lengths to mod it out with a scope and bipod like I...

AR 6.5 Grendel vs. 5.56 vs. 300 AAC Blackout

Thanks a lot for your support, man. I have no clue the type of load that was given to me at the time. They really didn't delve into the type of info when they handed us out the rounds, lol. And I didn't think to ask.
