Very true. My recommendation would have been to just keep him covered at that point. If he made a move to stop and turn back, then go ahead and eliminate the threat.
Definitely a tough call. I think if there had been a round chambered, he would have been ok at the first engagement. However, by the time the round was chambered, the threat was moving away. So, I voted "No."
