A few years back I lived downtown and happened to go to a concert at The Lawn during BE and decided I should walk home (all the way across downtown). I don't know why, but I sometimes like to put myself in my own social experiments. I was wearing a tie dye and a straw hat. Just looked a little out of place. I don't remember what street we were on at the time but we saw hundreds off people running one way and then turning and running another like a swarm off bees. I stopped to ask a lady what was going on. Here response was priceless. She looked at me like I was an alien and spoke really slow as if I didn't even know English. "It's...Black...Expo...Month" she explained. "NO KIDDING LADY. I realize that.' That was my response. Later found out it was just another shooting.

is it possible that the difference between those events is socio-economics and education rather than race?

It certainly could be, I would have no way of knowing the socio-economic status of the revelers at the Expo. I guess I assumed if they were having a convention down there, given the cost of hotels, meals, etc. the attendees would not be destitute.

I have an idea. Instead of avoiding it, would some of you like to be my guest at the event(s)? I can provide you tickets to the circus (at Lafayette Square) or the Expo (downtown). I know this will produce a lot of jokes, but it's a serious offer. If interested PM me.

Also, I didn't see a posting for the Hoosiers for Heroes event. Did I miss that thread? Does anyone have any information that can be placed on another thread?

Wow, just read through this whole thing... who knew? I guess just you folks down there on the firing line.

    BOR, just one comment on

One, that would never be allowed to happen as it would be racist by definition.

Two, how many basically all white events are held all the time downtown with no violence whatsoever? I have attended industry conventions in my line of work down there before. There would have been with spouses a couple thousand people and I don't think minorities wold make up 1% of attendees. I think one guy got picked up DUI one year. That was about it.

is it possible that the difference between those events is socio-economics and education rather than race?

This is what I was trying to get at. I don't think it's because they're Black. I think it's because they're trash, and those two facts are unrelated. (Don't Bob and Tom have a bit about the "White Trash Expo"?)

    Point.

Yeah, the thugs at GenCon are the ones to watch out for.
    Gencon_cpt_planet.jpg

    ...

Dunno... the redhead and the chick in the red boots look like they'd absolutely rock.

Shut up. It's my fantasy, I get to decide what happens there. I do have to wonder about Ms. Red Boots, though... D'ya think the old joke about watching porn and eating cheetos would apply?

It's not a race thing, to me. Whenever you allow a large group of young people to gather, who have no money to participate in the structured events, they will produce their own "fun", which turns out to produce disturbances. The kids who hang around the Expo are of all colors and come from all areas around the city.

Over the years, these disturbances have made it necessary for the police to help ensure the safety of the general public. These incidents never occur inside the venues, but with everything, it's not the great majority of the people who cause problems, it's a few. Also, I cannot say the police have been the cause of the bad rep they get during the Expo every time, either. But, just like some on INGO note the actions of bad LEO's, is it not possible that some act the same way during the Expo?

The Black Expo is a community event that is supposed to encourage all cultures to experience something different: dance, food, music, literature, etc. Where I'm from, we love attending the Greek, Polish, and Italian Festivals. Unfortunately, Indianapolis doesn't have these events.

I take my family to all kinds of events. I was told that I should not attend the Farmer's Market in Martinsville, but I did. Yeah, I got some strange looks, but I was treated very well and got some great produce. I don't allow fear to keep me in my "black box." Besides, if anything happened, which is possible on any given day, that's why I paid $$$ for a LTCH, right?

I'll be participating in my usual Black Expo festivities: turning off the local news and staying out of downtown.

My wife and I accidentally drove threw downtown during the expo once. On our way back from camping to her parents house, and didn't realize what was going on until we got in the middle of it. NEVER again. Racism and hatred are alive and well in this city, and they have an event scheduled in celebration.

What am I doing to get ready for IBE? Putting on my uniform.

firefights between gangs, occured atleast twice a block away during the last year, no cops ever responded.

    B.S.

I can only imagine how many "eat and runs" happen at that Steak N Shake this time of year.

Not many, actually. There are 6 or so special deputies working part-time at SNS and they guard both entrances. You have to get their permission to get in or out, and if they are told someone didn't pay their bill, that person doesn't leave until they do.

How is the Black Expo and their special license plates not racist??? We all know damn well if there was a White Expo and we had license plates for that we would be called racist and then Al Sharpton would show up. I just don't get it??? In Lafayette we had a Hispanic Pride festival earlier this year, how come there is no White Pride festival or expo? Oh yeah, because that would be racist.

I saw a personalized plate on a truck a couple years ago that said WHTEXPO. I'll have to run it to see if it still a valid plate.

Actually, we do. The Italian Festival was a couple of weeks ago. The Greek Festival is around Labor Day. And what about Oktoberfest? All good cultural events that are family-friendly and nearly crime-free.

Maybe we don't hear as much about these events because they don't make the crime blotter?

That may be true, but It is also possible that they do not advertise where others may have the opportunity to hear about them. I was out of the county from a month, but I listen to all sorts of radio stations and read community activity postings, but I have never heard about these festivals. I got to attend the Latino Festival last year, because it was downtown and I happened upon it coming out of the law library. But, I hadn't heard about that one either.

Now, just because these events are "nearly crime-free" I guess you still attend them? At what point would you not attend, or would you not allow some idiots and also fear to keep you away?

Never heard about Oktoberfest? Really? If something is even remotely German, they throw a party for Oktoberfest! The Greek Festival is usually all over the local news. The French Festival was practically in my backyard for 8 years, and was bigger every year. And yes, the others could advertise more than just on the local TV stations and local papers.

Yes, I have attended many of these events, and will continue. No event is 100% crime free. There are always a few bad apples (drunks, idiots, etc...). When would I chose to not attend an event?
    - when previous experience has told me I am not welcome
    - when the local and national news reports an increase in violence during the event

Would you really suggest that I take my wife and infant daughter for a walk wound the circle after dark on THIS Saturday evening?

I go to German fest(Oktoberfest), French fest, Slavic fest and other thing's that are centered around my culture and heritage, including Pro-American events - Never experienced or saw any crimes.

Everyone is very happy, all of the events are very family friendly, with good, wholesome folk music, not abunch of eff the girl in her *****, "treat dat hoe like whore, slap a B****, shoot a cop, stealin, dealing, killin" crap.

I dont have little brat kids trying to hit my daughter, like what recently happened at the Wal mart 71st/keystone; Thank God I didnt personally witness it. Mouthing off to me.

I encourage INGO members to take Que up on his generous offer, which is a very nice thing Que:)

Sounds like the perfect place for an INGO open carry event. Savage Eagle could lead a open carry rifle, shotgun and pistol event for a walk around Black Expo.

If that lunatic Shabazz is going to be there... It would certainly be gas on fire, on an already burning building...

But I'll be at the Officer/al sharpton protest on Sunday.

    ... Wal mart 71st/keystone...

:twocents:We go out of our way to avoid this location.:twocents:

If we "really need" to go to Walmart, we'll keep driving. The extra 15 minutes each way is nearly made up by not having to stand in the slow lines at this store... not to mention the benefit of increase customer service and fellow customer quality.

(SOOOO glad I'm moving out of the city. 10 years was enough for this country boy.)

Yep. The service is 100% crap.

All the complaining about no jobs, and this wal mart can be found with just one register open :dunno:

The service is horribly unprofessional, not mention makes one feel unwelcomed.

And then the carts - No one ever places the darn carts where they should go. I often find carts blocking good parking spots.

One of the "thug" cart pushers, got in trouble one day, because I had enough of his lazy performance; Picked up a cart and threw it in his direction, which was in the middle of the street.

The service has gotten abit better, but a far cry from even being considered remotely decent.

I want the heck out of Indy, and bad.

I admire the Country folks, you guys have it made.. You dont even know.

For starters, you have to stop calling things "boss". :rockwoot:
    im bringing it back.
They seem to also include a complemntary handicaped parking placard.
all the more reason to get one.
Try walking down the street and seeing that. It makes me want to start masturbating. Never a good thing in public.

    Im kidding.NOT REALLY
you should have drove or walked alongside him masturbating.
